This
year's rabbinical graduates represented a true "ingathering
of the nations," with two immigrants from the
FSU, three immigrants from the United States, a
graduate from France, an Israeli, and Yefet Alemu,
who arrived in Israel from Ethiopia before Operation
Moses in 1983. All eight grads are involved with
Masorti congregational work. Rabbi Barry Schlesinger
is spiritual leader at Jerusalem's Kehilat Moreshet
Avraham, Rabbi Zvi Landau leads Karmiel's Kehilat
Hakerem, Rabbi Michael Kovsan serves Jerusalem's
Kehilat Hayovel, Rabbi Michael Schwartz works
as educational coordinator of Kehilat Hod V'Hadar
in Kfar Saba, Rabbi Yeshaya Dalsace serves Kehilat
Keren Or Masorti in Nice, France, Rabbi Baruch
Yonin leads Chavurat Ma'ale Adumim in Ma'ale
Adumim, Rabbi Elisha Wolfin is working with Chavurat
Zichron in Zichron Ya'acov, and Rabbi Yefet
Alemu, a veteran immigrant from Ethiopia, became
the first Masorti rabbi to represent the Ethiopian
community in Israel.
