Israel's Top Echelon of Democracy Attends Schechter
Graduation
Honoring retired Justice Prof. Ithak Zamir at
the ceremony, were Chief Justice Aharon Barak, retired
State Comptroller Mirian Ben Porat, and a number
of Supreme Court Justices and colleagues of Zamir.
As guest speaker, Prof. Zamir reminisced about his
first years in Tel Aviv as a child, arriving in
Israel from Poland in 1934. He was teased for his
light-colored hair, which was not accepted easily
by his neighborhood peers. He related that this
"difference" wounded his pride, which
healed with time, but the lesson learned on those
Tel Aviv streets - that of the importance of nurturing
the notion of mutual respect - was never forgotten
by Zamir. He went on to become one of Israel's most
respected figures in Israeli jurisprudence.
