Pilgrammage and Study Guide

In
advance of the Shavuot holiday, a beautiful Study
Guide to the Book of Ruth was first used
when 320 women from all over Israel made their annual
pilgrimmage to Jerusalem and the Schechter Institute
for a day of study, co-sponsored by the Schechter
Institute, Women's League for Conservative Judaism
and the Masorti Movement. About half of the spirited
group were new immigrants from the FSU and Argentina.
The "niggun" of learning rang out in four
languages: Hebrew, English, Russian and Spanish
in a variety of workshops. Hats off to Diane Friedgut
for making this incredible experience happen, drawing
more and more women each year.
Prof.
Miriyam Glazer created this valuable work. An overseas
rabbinical student from the University of Judaism
in Los Angeles who has spent the year with us at
SIJS, Prof. Glazer was also a visiting scholar at
the Hebrew University. She heads the Literature
Dept. at the University of Judaism. SIJS graduates
Rabbi Shira Yisrael and Rabbi Diana Villa served
as contributing editors to the guide.Translations
of the study guide were made by Rabbi Diana Villa
(Spanish); SIJS rabbinical student Hannah Kaplansky
(Russian); and Ayelet Kahn, granddaughter of Diane
Friedgut, (Hebrew).
