2003 - Graduation: Saluting Pluralistic Studies
56 graduates,
including four rabbinical ordainees, 53 MA students
and 3 DHL students received degrees at the Schechter
16th Ordination and Commencement Exercises. The valedictorian address was delivered
by Tamar Biala, a graduate of the research track
in Jewish Studies with a specialization in Women's
and Gender Studies.

- Pilgrimmage and Study
320
women from all over Israel made their annual pre-Shavuot
pilgrimmage to Jerusalem and the Schechter Institute for
a day of study. The participants learned about the Book
of Ruth, using a beautiful, new Study
Guide to the Book of Ruth created by Prof. Miriyam Glazer.

2003 - Liebhaber Prize
Ceremony and Knesset Meets Schechter
The
SIJS annual international board of governors met in Jerusalem.
A highlight of the meeting was the sixth annual Marc and
Henia Liebhaber Prize Ceremony which took place in Jerusalem
on Monday May 12. The following day, world-acclaimed Israeli
architect, Ada Karmi, presented her program and vision of
the new SIJS Jerusalem campus which she has been chosen
to design. On Wednesday, with the conclusion of the business
session, a delegation of SIJS leadership met with members
of Knesset from the Shinui party - Israel's party of "change"
that swept into government last year with 15 Knesset seats.

Voice
Sharon Shenhav describes her recent election to the
Commission to Appoint Dayanim in Israel. Shenhav, who serves
as Civil Law Faculty Advisor to the Schechter Institute
Center for Women in Jewish Law, is an international womens
rights lawyer recognized as an expert on marriage and divorce
in Jewish law. She has represented hundreds of women in
rabbinical courts in Israel and has been a member of the
Israeli delegation to the UN Commission on the Status of
Women.

2002 - International Card Campaign to
Boost Morale in Israel A group of American rabbinical students studying
in Jerusalem this year are asking that Jews (from all over the world) send handmade
and decorative cards/pictures/posters of support and encouragement to Israel.
Once received, the students will post them all over the store fronts, bus stops,
places of terrorist attacks, hospitals, as well as other central places in Jerusalem
in an effort to boost morale and show support. April
