Graduates
In Israel today, 750 Schechter Institute graduates - from Eilat to the Galilee - are making an impact on the religious and social landscape as educators and spiritual leaders.
Schechter provides numerous scholarships to teachers based on financial need, geographic location (such as development towns and underprivileged neighborhoods), and academic achievement.

Nurit
Novis
M.A. Degree - Educational Leadership
Program
Teaches Judaism to hundreds of non-religious
school teachers at the National Center
for Teacher Training in Beersheva. |
"Israeli society is very much immersed in the moment, in the pressures of
daily life. Most of us are not allowed the luxury of searching out our spiritual
and intellectual side. Judaism is a wonderful and rich culture. I am convinced
that through Jewish knowledge, more Israelis could find meaning in their lives...attaining
an inner harmony that is so lacking today." |

Avi
Yifrach
M.A. Degree in Interdisciplinary Jewish Studies
Teacher of Bible and Hebrew Literature at a Jerusalem public high school.
Trains teachers in a "Judaism and Democracy" project for 15
religious and secular high schools in the Tel Aviv area, reaching more
than 500 students and 120 teachers. |
"I wear a kippa. My students automatically stereotyped me. But I wouldn't
let them put me in a box. Once inside, dialogue ends, and then start the stigmas
and extremism. The Schechter Institute taught me to connect, interface, integrate
- not only in the classroom, but in the real world as well." |

Tami
Cohen
M.A. in Jewish Women's Studies
Member of the Ramat Gan City Council; Sculpture; Director of Manpower
Division, Israel Railroads. |
"My parents came to Israel from Yemen. I grew up in an extremely religious
home, both conservative and closed, especially regarding women's roles. Although
I broke out of the confines, I was searching for a way back to Judaism, and a
way forward - to Jewish feminism. The Schechter Institute was the link I was
looking for, both spiritual and pro-active." |
