The "Ask the Rabbi" feature of The Schechter Institutes website provides thoughtful and well-researched responsa to hundreds of questions pertaining to the practice of Judaism and Jewish Law written by Rabbis Monique Susskind Goldberg z"l and Diana Villa during the years 2002-2010. The site continues to attract readers from around the world with its large archive of articles on a variety of subjects ranging from interfaith and conversion to Jewish life cycle events, kashrut, ethical dilemmas and more.
In 2010, a collection of 90 responsa selected from Ask the Rabbi's more than 600 online responsa were published in Ask the Rabbi: Women Rabbis Respond to Modern Halakhic Questions.The book is unique in that it is the first volume of response ever written by two women rabbis. The untimely death of Rabbi Monique Susskind Goldberg z"l in 2012 was a great loss to the Schechter Institute, where she worked as a senior researcher at the Center for Women in Jewish Law since its inception in 1999, together with Rabbi Diana Villa. A native of Belgium, Monique held degrees in Biology and Bible and was ordained at the Schechter Rabbinical Seminary in 1999.
Rabbi Diana Villa, coordinator of the Mishlei Bet-Midrash/M.A. program at Schechter and a lecturer in Talmud and Jewish law, grew up in Argentina. She has degrees in Philosophy, Jewish Philosophy and Psychology from the Hebrew University, the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York and Buenos Aires University. She received ordination from the Schechter Rabbinical Seminary in 2000.
